The Student of the Year Award, College & CEGEP WIL, has been awarded to Quinlin Lawrynowicz, an Honours Bachelor of Creative Writing and Publishing student at Sheridan College.
Quinlin’s WIL experience at Inflamed Brain Alliance (IBA), Canada’s only national charity for PANS/PANDAS, began with initiative and innovation. Identifying a gap in resources for individuals affected by PANS/PANDAS, Quinlin proposed the Healing Stories Creative Writing Program and successfully created a new role as the organization’s first Healing Stories Coordinator.
In this role, Quinlin designed and led a series of creative writing workshops, offering participants a platform to express their experiences and process trauma through storytelling. They also developed a zine template and video-based instructional materials to ensure the program’s long-term accessibility. Beyond the workshops, Quinlin leveraged their expertise in digital content creation to produce awareness and fundraising videos, amassing over 75,000 views across multiple platforms. Their work played a crucial role in increasing visibility and engagement for IBA.
Quinlin’s WIL experience not only reinforced their skills in writing, publishing, and digital media but also ignited new passions. Their dedication extended beyond their internship as they took the initiative to self-publish Deeply Dysphoric, an anthology of short stories featuring trans characters. This project allowed them to gain hands-on experience in book formatting, illustration adaptation, cover design, and marketing—valuable skills that align with their career aspirations.
Quinlin’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities, along with their commitment to fostering community through storytelling, has left a lasting impact on IBA and the individuals it serves. Le Prix de l’étudiant de l'année – AIT Collège & CEGEP a été attribué à Quinlin Lawrynowicz, un étudiant en Bachelor en Écriture créative et édition à Sheridan College.
L'expérience AIT de Quinlin à Inflamed Brain Alliance (IBA), la seule organisation caritative nationale pour le PANS/PANDAS au Canada, a débuté avec de l'initiative et de l’innovation. L’expérience de Quinlin a non seulement renforcé ses compétences en écriture, en édition et en médias numériques, mais a aussi éveillé de nouvelles passions. Son dévouement a dépassé son stage lorsqu’il a pris l'initiative de publier de manière autonome Deeply Dysphoric, une anthologie de nouvelles mettant en scène des personnages transgenres.
